Introduction
Natalie Jarvis is a Canadian Collage Artist with a passion for vintage magazines and jewelry design. She combines these interests into multimedia creations that are injected with beauty, humour and history.
As the Daughter of legendary Toronto Jewelry Designer, Charles Agate, Natalie has always been surrounded by craftsmanship. Her Father was one of the very first black jewelry designers in Canada. As a young person, she was encouraged to appreciate the smaller details of creating a piece of art.
Her Mother, Gloria was a Fashion Designer who also made her mark in Canada working for designers like Alfred Sung. Trained in New York, she exposed Natalie to a wide range of creativity and influenced her personal style.
In her teens she began collecting magazines. Along with a library of vintage periodicals passed on to her by her Mom. These would eventually become the foundation for her life as a Collage Artist.
During the Pandemic, Natalie was exposed to the world of collaging. Suddenly, her magazine collection had new purpose. She began cutting and arranging magazine pieces, participating in art groups and attending shows to support other Artists. This opened up a whole new world and helped to shape her own collection.
She works from her home studio in Toronto produced by Juggernaut Design of which she functions as Studio Manager
Natalie is happily married for over 23+ years with 2 children. A proud Canadian with Chinese-Jamaican roots.
Artist Statement
“I was introduced to collage art in 2021. At the time, Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) had the world’s attention. Just previous to the AI art explosion, the NFT community offered me an opportunity to learn and participate in this exciting time. I supported others and in return I was rewarded with new friendships with Artists and Collectors alike.
My online art handle is NFT Nat (Natalie From Toronto). I have personally created several NFTs into a digital collection of work. I was also part of the team that managed the design for both the OMAR NFT and Canadian Tire’s very first (and only) NFT collection. Those experiences were very special to me. I learned a lot.
My main focus now is on building tangible pieces of work that can be enjoyed by others.
For many years, I have endeavoured to improve my work. Along the way, I have built a collection of art that I am finally ready to share. I have rebranded myself to my true self. My name is Natalie Jarvis and I am a Collage Artist.“
